St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton, ND was established in December of 1896. But for almost two decades before that, Catholic priests came through now and then and provided for the spiritual needs of the Catholics in the area. During the fall of 1899 the Benedictine monks relocated to Richardton. Since that time the monks have provided for the pastoral needs of the people of St. Mary's Parish.
St. Mary's has 280 households. It has an active Religious Education Program, the Christian Mothers Society, a Knight of Columbus Council, a Court of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Ministry of Praise. When St. Mary's celebrated its centennial in 1996 a book was published that contains its history as well as a list of those baptized, married and buried at St. Mary's. This book can be obtained for $10 plus $2.50 for postage by contacting St. Mary's.
